Doreen Roberts. The Mercenary and the Marriage Vow. New York: Silhouette, 1998.
Nathan Thorne accepts a job from Sabhad, a Saudi Arabian oil Sheik, to find and bring back his
wife. Sabhad tells him that the woman, Valeri Richmond, married him for his wealth, grew bored,
then abandoned him and their two daughters in order to pursue infidelities with other men.
Nathan quickly finds Valeri in Sacramento, and ends up following her by car as she heads to Nevada.
When she loses control of her car, Nathan is able to pull her out and save her from perishing in
a fiery crash.
But when she awakens in a hospital shortly afterwards, Valeri has no memory of the last
six years of her life, insisting to Nathan that she has not remarried since divorcing her first husband. She is
also certain she is not a mother.
Suddenly, the two find themselves involved in a
situation of dangerous international intrigue, escaping attempts on their lives.
In the midst
of all the danger, Valeri and Nathan find themselves attracted to each other. But
will they live through their perilous situation and be able to follow through with their
feelings?
